Global Issues

Health

Health depends on our bodies, our minds and the conditions in which we live.

Health

Health involves physical, mental and social well-being. Sleep, movement, food and supportive relationships can all contribute to it. However, health is also shaped by things a person cannot change alone, such as housing, income, clean water and access to care.

Why it matters

These conditions help explain why some communities face greater health risks than others. A clinic may be too far away, treatment may cost too much, or discrimination may stop someone from seeking help. The World Health Organization provides information on health issues and the services people need. Fair access to those services benefits whole communities.

Take action

Young people can help by sharing reliable information and speaking up about barriers to care. Look at one issue in your school or neighbourhood, such as access to drinking water or mental health support. Listen to the people affected, then work with them to identify a practical improvement.

When it comes to global health, there is no 'them'... only 'us.'
