Gender equality means having the same rights and chances in life, regardless of gender. It includes access to school, work, leadership and care. It also means freedom from violence. Ideas about gender can shape what people are allowed to do. These limits can reduce their choices.
Why it matters
Women and girls have long organized for equal rights, and barriers remain in many settings. These can overlap with racism, poverty or disability discrimination. UN Women works on issues including leadership, economic opportunity and ending violence against women. Progress means changing rules and practices, as well as attitudes.
Take action
Look at how your school shares tasks and leadership roles. Who gets a chance to take part? You could question stereotypes, support fair participation or help make a reporting process safer. Connect these efforts with human rights and listen to people whose experiences differ from your own.
