Youth Violence

Youth Violence

Youth violence can include physical attacks, bullying, sexual violence and other forms of harm involving young people. The effects go beyond an injury. Violence can disrupt relationships, learning and a person’s sense of safety. Young people affected by violence deserve support rather than blame or labels.

Why it matters

Violence has no single cause or solution. Safe environments, supportive relationships and access to services can help prevent it. The World Health Organization’s youth violence resources describe approaches involving families, schools and communities. Responses should address harmful behaviour while giving people ways to build a different future.

Take action

You could help improve a school’s reporting process, support a peer inclusion project or learn how to respond to bullying safely. Do not put yourself at risk by confronting violence alone. Connect this work with child and youth rights, including the right to protection and a voice in decisions.

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.
