TakingITGlobal and Humber Polytechnic Launch New Micro-Credential Recognizing Social Innovation Skills

We’re proud to announce an exciting new collaboration between TakingITGlobal and Humber Polytechnic that strengthens pathways for emerging social innovators in communities across Canada.

Over the past year, TakingITGlobal has been working closely with Humber Polytechnic to align the Sprout Ideas Fellowship with post-secondary learning standards. This effort has culminated in the launch of a brand-new micro-credential: Project Design for Community Impact, an official recognition exclusive to 2025 Sprout Fellows.

Why This Matters

Since its inception, the Sprout Ideas Fellowship, funded by the Canada Service Corps program, has supported youth aged 15 to 30 in launching high-impact community projects addressing pressing issues like climate change, mental health, and cultural revitalization. With mentorship, training, and seed funding of up to $5,000, Fellows develop practical leadership and social innovation skills that drive real change.

Now, through this partnership with Humber Polytechnic, Fellows will not only grow their impact but also gain academic recognition for their contributions.

About the Micro-Credential

The Project Design for Community Impact micro-credential validates skills in:

• Project planning and implementation
• Community engagement
• Leadership and collaboration
• Measuring and communicating social impact

To be eligible, 2025 Sprout Fellows must:

• Complete all 12 Fellowship learning modules
• Execute a community project supported by their seed grant
• Participate in at least five extra learning sessions
• Submit a final impact report

Upon completion, Fellows will receive an official micro-credential certificate from Humber Polytechnic and a digital badge to display on LinkedIn or professional profiles.

Credential issuance will begin in March 2026, and — thanks to TakingITGlobal — all costs are covered, ensuring it remains completely free and accessible to Fellows.
