Alarm For Humanity

World Refugee Day, dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. This day was established by the United Nations (UN) to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.  World Refugee Day is an era for us to reflect on the refugees and displaced people around the world who bear these terrible burdens through no fault of their own. It is a day for governments around the world to augment their work to support refugees, to recommit themselves to the resolution of conflicts, and to make greater efforts to prevent them.

Over the past decade, society has changed drastically and change has been prevalent both good and bad. The word Refugee having a negative connotation has bought a negative effect on society. Saddening, that we have to brand people as refugees in many parts of the world today.  It's shameful that people are thrown out of their houses, their ancestral grounds, their roots and just put somewhere else in a matter of days. Does humanity even loom in such situations?

All theses refugees- the name by which they are known- can only sit and wait. They wait along with other people confronted with similar misery, who have also lost their brothers, sisters, husband's and sons. One would think that, now that they are in a camp they would be treated fairly. Not at all, in fact it's worse! Other refugees, beaten up over food, shoot them down; girls are mercilessly raped for entertainment.  It's truly the survival of the fittest.

This year’s theme is titled "1 family torn apart by war is too many" it reminds us that the casualties of war are ordinary people, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. Recent conflicts have forced record numbers of families to leave everything behind.

So having a world Refugee day shouldn't mean that for one day we pay attention to these people, it shouldn't mean that we put more food or clothing in the donation box today. Rather it should be a loud alarm to wake us up and to make governments and ministries realize that by prolonging your decision more people are starving, more girls are being tortured and more refugees are forming minute by minute.  This should be an alarm to make sure that they can go back home soon, they receive proper treatment and amenities.  This day should be a catalyst in creating change that will benefit mankind and stir us onto the path for the future we want.
