Throughout history, women fought for their basic rights. Women have gone through a lot of struggle, but somehow they finally gain their independence and equality. Women were considered to be intellectually inferior, physically weak, irrational and emotional intuitive. The image of woman as child bearers, and only wife, was strongly fought against. Women nowadays hold positions in every aspect of life. They can be anything, as long as they want it to be. They are very ambitious, strong and independent. No matter of what social and cultural norms say about the role of women, many effective and influential women all over the globe found their ways, liberated themselves from the restrictions and fought for what they believe in. To be honest, being a woman in Egypt is very exhausting. You get to do what makes you happy, and comfortable, according to you, not according to society. You get to fight for your beliefs, and rights that many people are being deprived of. One of the biggest challenges is sexual harassment. You can’t walk in the streets without being harassed. You can’t walk peacefully without hearing dirty comments being shot on you. I can hear people talking, laughing and making fun about my curly hair, my clothes or just staring at me. This is very annoying; when their eyes are following you whenever you go! Being a girl might be hard but it is definitely a blessing. You are born for a reason. Don’t blame or despise yourself for being a girl. Don’t let anyone ruin what you have and who you are. Stand for what you believe in, even you are standing alone. Celebrate your being! Salute to each and every woman across the globe. Happy International Women’s day =) Cheers.
