How media making has impacted on me through AYV-Lubanga Hakim

I am Lubanga Hakim 17years old, learner of Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) at Shadow Idol AYV site, Uganda. I joined AYV in 2011 when one of the Lead Educators, Chole Richard visited or center with one of the AYV learners Bukirwa Rhamula, from PMM Girls’ AYV site, who presented to us about AYV. I got inspired by the learner’s confidence and the skills that she said she acquired from AYV.

AYV has impacted on me in terms of skills, knowledge and attitude.

Skills

Through media making, I have acquired a lot of the 21^st century skills like using cameras to take photos and record videos, video editing, using Adobe Premier and Photoshop elements, basic computer skills like making a power point presentation, using internet to make research and networking with different kinds of people across the world.

Attitude

Before I joined AYV, I only used to think about the problem affecting my family members and I personally not minding about others people, but AYV opened my mind that I also started thinking of the challenges affecting other people around the world and how I can also try to be a positive change agent in my community.

Knowledge

First and foremost, I didn’t know how to speak English. AYV was like a platform where I could practice my English and now, am at least more better that the past our yeas back, I really had little knowledge about using computers, internet and other 21^st century tools like cameras because I thought that these were things for only more educated people, but in AYV video, I got it all and even learnt how could use this knowledge to fulfill my dream of being a positive change agent in my community.

Through AYV, I got chances of attending a number of AYV training workshops where i got to learn most of the skills, and also participated in some workshops as a facilitator and inspirational guest speaker.

I have also participated in a number of media creations like The Power is in Your Hands , Jackie’s Letter, and Fortunate, especially as a camera person and editor.

I have also presented at a number of exhibitions which makes me become more confident In front of a crowd.

Because of experience and interest in AYV, I also underwent AYV Educator online course training and I am currently going on with the Sprout E-course (online) organized by TakingITGlobal (TIG), where I have learnt a lot of media skills, entrepreneur skills and business skills. I also appreciate the peer to peer learning(not teacher centered) and sharing of ideas. This has really helped me a lot

I aspire to continue with AYV and also strive to also create a media that will win the AYV awards, attend at least one AYV Summit, inspire more youth to join AYV and also become a lead educator.

Thanks a lot to my dear Lead Educator, Chole Richard who introduced the AYV Program to our youth group, our Educators who have continuously supported me to develop in AYV skills and my fellow AYV members for the continuous team work, sharing and learning from each other.

I also want to thank the Adobe Youth Voices community at large for the continuous support and encouragement to inspire and also raising our (young people) voices to the whole world. May God bless you all
