AYV Partner Appreciation Events Around The World: Mexico City Part 2
Originally published

Over the years, TakingITGlobal has collaborated with the Adobe Foundation to reach over 10,000 youth through the Adobe Youth Voices program. This work happened with the support and dedication of our partner sites around the world that played an integral role in implementing the youth-focused programming. Without their commitment to engaging and empowering youth to share their stories through digital media, none of this meaningful work could have been done.
To express our gratitude, we are hosting AYV Partner Appreciation Events all around the world. Some of our most poignant and inspirational partners were in Mexico City. It was not possible to demonstrate all of our gratitude in only one day so this chapter of our journey takes place over 4 days. The first two days of our celebration were held at the Peterson School.

The third day of our celebration takes us to Fundación Proacceso. A site visit to their head office was conducted to meet those who are behind the scenes and working hard to ensure that the AYV program run smoothly. The organization received a Plaque of Appreciation to represent our gratitude for their efforts to AYV over the years.

This was followed by a visit to one of the centers where the AYV program was implemented in a marginalized community. Fundación Proacceso has 123 technology centers around the State of Mexico in underprivileged communities and 6 of these centers offer the AYV program. At some of these centers, Fundación Proacceso was the first to bring internet into the community. The center is equipped with computers for the participants to use both during the program time and during their own time when the classroom is not in use.

Fundación Proacceso is still running their AYV programs so we were able to visit one in action. The youth present shared their diverse stories about how they came to be involved in this program and the type of projects they are working on.

The final stop in Mexico City was to the head office of Amnesty International Mexico. Here we meet a few of those responsible for implementing the AYV program through this site. The projects that were produced by youth from this site focused on human rights issues that are pertinent to their community.

Amnesty International Mexico expressed their gratitude in return for the resources and support that they received from the AYV program. One of the highlights to their program was the period of reflections and discussion during the rough cuts phase of the video creation process. It was at this point that youth engaged in insightful and meaningful conversations on issues and learned ways to improve their digital media to better share their messages with the world.

Thank you!
A special thank you to Angela Aguilera and Sofia Camacho and the team at Fundacion Proacceso and to Gabriela Albin and the team at Amnesty International Mexico for empowering marginalized youth to express themselves through digital media. Our celebrations here are to extend our sincerest gratitude to all of the educators and participants from these sites for their participation and dedication to the Adobe Youth Voices Program. We recognize the meaningful work that is being done on the ground and we are honoured to be a part of the process where youth can express their voices on the issues that matter the most to them.
