AYV Exhibitions: Fundación ph15

The youth of Fundación ph15 had a different approach to their art exhibit. Instead of asking people from their community to attend a viewing of their art, they brought their art to the community!

The theme of this exhibition was appropriately titled “Intervention in the neighbourhood” since that is exactly what it was. This artistic intervention occurred in the neighbourhood of Villa Lugano, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

So how did Fundación ph15 accomplish this creative intervention? The youth hung their art on walls around the neighbourhood. About a dozen youth were involved in this part and about 200 people saw the posters and interacted with the youth, asking them about their art.

Fundación ph15 opted for a more performative exhibition because the artistic pieces explored issues of cultural and social discrimination which are heartfelt topic for the whole community. Stereotyping and social isolation are significant problems within the community that the youth wanted to raise and engage their neighbours in conversations regarding these pertinent topics. Before hanging their artistic pieces, the youth would ask permission from their neighbours and this fostered opportunities to engage in critical conversations.

This innovative exhibition allowed youth to share their art and use it as a medium to spark conversations with their community members on issues they care about.
