Art. Perspective. Possibility.
25 young leaders have been selected for the pioneer DeforestACTION project aimed at protecting forests, working with local communities and saving orangutans.
DeforestACTION is a global action project involving millions of students from around the world who want to play an active role in stopping deforestation. The project is supported by TakingITGlobal and Microsoft Partners in Learning. We've teamed up with acclaimed conservationist Dr. Willie Smits to create awareness about the destruction caused by deforestation, restore a full forest eco-system and provide a sustainable livelihood for the local community.
Award-winning production company Virgo Productions is developing a 3D feature documentary about the project in collaboration with National Geographic Entertainment. Shooting will take place over 100 days in Borneo. Cathy Henkel, (The Burning Season, The Man who Stole my Mother’s Face) will produce and direct 100 Days in the Jungle: Project Borneo 3D, to be shot by acclaimed cinematographer Don McAlpine (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Wolverine) and Paul Nichola (Cane Toads: The Conquest 3D). A TV series is in development with National Geographic for the second 100 days.
DeforestACTION is selecting 12 young team leaders to lead this global action project - and feature in the 3D movie. Submissions and voting for the applicants have now closed!
A short list of 50 was announced in early May. A top 25 was announced in early June.
All 25 will have a leading role in the project. A smaller group will head to Borneo in September for an orientation and reconniassance trip to meet the local communities and assess the scale of the challenge. They will return in February next year for 80 days to implement their action plans. Throughout the project, they will connect with the world though the web, providing updates to the millions of students across the globe who are responsible for developing and driving the project.

EXTENSION OF DEADLINE FOR APPLICANTS FOR PROJECT BORNEO 3D --- With more and more entries pouring in from across the globe, we are experiencing a backlog of submissions. The extension was put in place to allow these applicants time to gain votes and support for their entries, and to allow countries like China, Indonesia and the US more time to promote the project. For those of you who have already submitted an application, the extension provides a perfect opportunity to gain more support, awareness and votes for your clip! It also gives you an opportunity, if you choose, to resubmit your clip. All you have to do is upload it as you previously did to YouTube, and email the TIG staff with your old submission YouTube URL and your new submission URL. All your votes/ratings will carry-over! For those of you who have already submitted, keep building your support base. The person with the most votes will automatically be in the top 20. Those who submitted early will be given bonus points in the selection process. The new deadline for entries is 1700 EST on April 10th. The top 50 recruits will be announced May 1. The top ten will be announced soon after, with filming scheduled to commence in Indonesia on July 1.
Extension of deadline!! What! Im devastated!! I was so excited the deadline was coming up and the winners were announced soon! I understand that the aim is to try and create more involvement and awareness around the project but I really feel for everyone like myself who raced out and made it a priority to get our videos in with ample voting time. And why is there mention of re-submitting a new video? May the best and most suitable men/women win this great opportunity, not just the people with the most votes.

Yay for the option for re-submitting. Shooooo! I was in a hurry to get my video in, but wanted to make some changes, so Im glad I get the option.
Hey Guys! when you submitted your videos, in your profile under submitted>express yourself the only thing it said was pending?!?! our video is not up yet, so I'm not sure if the video is been uploaded or not because 48 hours already passed!!
Hi guys, my video does not enable comments to be made? Anyone know how to fix that?
Hey cgaut5, I had that same issue. If I remember correctly, I clicked on edit submission that was to the lower/right of my video. Then along with some other questions was a box to click that enables commments. Hope this helps
Great support from my local paper today, so stoked!!! - I can't seem to attach the link here though!
Hi guys, check out my Talking Orangutan video in my TIG gallery
">http://gg.tigweb.org/whereisfabrice/52197/"> HERE.
I had mixed feedback, from creepy to hilarous but it seems to be popular on Youtube. What do you think?
Hey everybody. In 2003 I travelled to Camp Leakey in Kalimantan. I stayed there for an amazing 6 weeks and was lucky enough to meet and chat with Dr Birute Galdikas. If you are looking for an amazing website that provides plenty of information on how to help, please visit the Orangutan Foundation International website http://www.orangutan.org/ and send the link to your friends. Cheers :-)

Guys,
For your info, geospatial technologies can be a very useful tool to map inaccessible areas, monitor deforestation and find operational solutions.
SarVision is a great geospatial company and they contributes to some very impressive sustainable development efforts here in Indonesia. Have a look at the list of some of
their projects .
I was involved in similar projects in the Amazon a few years ago and I'm glad to see the same technology applied in Indonesia.
Hi Fleur! Good work with the local paper! How did you get them to do it??? My local rags said they will only publish an article if I WIN...which is a bit disappointing!...
VOTE!VOTE!VOTE!
I just uploaded a quick refined version of my video to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o625TeqpQQ8
I dubbed it in Polish and uploaded it to a few Polish social networks to broaden my vote spectrum. If anyone knows any other languages its an awsome way to gain more votes. I dont happen to speak Polish but I know a few people so i figured id give it a go. If anyone that watches my video that knows Polish i appologize for my horrible pronounciation.
Hi everyone,
Rather than submitting extra videos to YouTube with captioning (we can't approve multiple videos from one person - voting would be confusing and difficult to tabulate), you can use the Closed Captioning feature of YouTube to do multi-language captioning.

Hi guys, I have had sooooo much on this week it's been hectic. I have to say - shame on the project for extending the deadline but good luck to all those lucky new entrants. Also, check out a story The Maitland Mercury (NSW newspaper) did on the project and myself. Visit www.maitlandmercury.com.au and do a search on my name or the project name. Not only did they give nearly half of page 2 to the cause but also a headline on the front page. This should get loads more people educated and involved :)
Hey guys, my movie is on the page but it doesn't allow comments, can someone please help me activate to allow comments?
Hi Kia, we have enabled commenting on your video. FYI - You can disable or enable commenting by clicking 'Edit Submission' on the right hand column when you're looking at your video page!
Wow thank you so much mfurdyk
Speaking of O.O., we need to keep growing the Orangutan Outreach Facebook Cause!!!! Please share this with your friends and loved ones, and thank you everybody!

Thanks Steve! I adopted Pingky and I really hope to meet her soon - there are so many cuties to adopt, from as little as $10 a month - so everyone should check them out and definitely tell all your friends!!! :)
Hi all - don't forget to 'like' Project Borneo 3D's facebook page!! - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=150447704989673
@juliedipper - I have put your article on the Facebook page. Tag yourself in it so everyone can see what you have been up to!
Tira - did you submit it to the contest through the link above: 'Submit Now' and click the YouTube link to import your video? We don't have any submissions from you in our system, other than a Photo of you with an Orangutan (no video clips)
Hi I've had the same problem, my video was submitted quite a few days ago but still not showing up, has it gone through properly? thanks
It's so nice to see so many like-minded, passionate people in the one place :) Eloise
