DeforestAction: Project Borneo

I have been thinking about the 'save Luna' flagship petition I have some thoughts. The people who would be most likely to take a petition such as this forward would be those who already support conservation such as those who ratified the CBD on behalf of the Indonesian government. These people are also likely to have internet access that is reasonably reliable and appropriate networks to present this information to. Indonesia signed the CBD on 1994-06-05 and became party to it on 1994-08-23, issuing a responsive National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan in 2003. Within the Objectives this document states: "The main objective of formulating a national biodiversity strategy and action plan is to facilitate activities on the conservation and sustainable of biodiversity as indicated in the CBD." This is further detailed to include slowing the loss of primary forest and developing a collaborative management strategy for the protection of natural resources and ecosystems. Policies and actions undertaken by the Ministry of Forestry include: assessing the management effectiveness of the national parks; restoring populations of endangered, threatened, critical species in in-situ and ex situ conservation area; reintroducing or rehabilitating flagship species. My suggestion is that we as a group direct our concerns and petitions to the Indonesian CBD contacts, whose contact details are available freely on the following website:

Hi eco-superstars!! Yesterday I became one of 12 young speakers in an event held by Pecha Kucha which was attended by 200ish guests and 20 media. There was also live-tweet during my presentation. I got an exclusive interview by 'Media Indonesia' too. I acted as an Action Agent of DeforestAction, so our message has been widely spread!! :D I also managed to be the only speaker who appeared in their newsletter. At the end of the event, there were many people who approached me asking about the opportunity to join DeforestAction! Too bad that they could no longer join, so instead I asked them to join me in my weekends' environmental activities. I'm so happy because with this opportunity (being an Action Agent), I could inspire a lot of youngsters (as they said). My spirit is even more on fire now because it feels so good to feel that I am no longer walking alone! Last night was just splendid, great event with great people!

Everybody can be involved in the deforestaction project by giving a bit of time and/or money and spreading the word. There is no deadline for that. I guess you meant to say it's too late to be one of the ten action agents to be featured in the Borneo 3D project.

@sbob Haha, Yeah thanks, small crowd all right. I have organised to go with my friends that I went to Sabah with, our research group had an amazing connection, so those of us in town are going. TIG'ers welcome to get in the mix :)

@Tara Thanks for that. Unfortunately, The Borneo Post and the other government-controlled media outlets in Malaysia are all biased when it comes to anything that may contradict government policies. MalaysiaKini and whistleblower sites like Sarawak Report are our only alternatives when it comes to seeking alternative viewpoints on issues in Malaysia. Most infamously, the Sarawak Tribune was shut down in 2006 (at the hands of the federal government in KL). It has since returned as the New Sarawak Tribune with Taib's daughter as its editor. Its content is now dull, boring and very biased.
