EVOKE: A Canada-wide Art Contest

EVOKE is a call to young Canadians aged 13 to 25. We want to hear your perspective on human rights through art. Reflect on the past and present. What do you see for the future?

CONTEST PERIOD

Submissions were accepted from April 14 2010 to June 2, 2010. The contest is now closed, and winning submissions are displayed below.

SUBMISSIONS

• Artwork can be submitted in the form of a video or a digital image that can be uploaded (including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture and photography).
• Video guidelines: Videos must first be uploaded to YouTube (using the entrants’ YouTube account) and then linked to TakingITGlobal’s Global Gallery. After doing so, entrants may submit their videos the same way as any other submission by following the instructions outlined on the website. Videos can have a maximum length of 2 minutes and must use only original or royalty-free music and images.
• Digital image guidelines: Supported file formats include jpg., jpeg., and gif. (up to 4 megabytes). Images must have a minimum size of 800 x 600 pixels.

TIPS

Human rights can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. When thinking of your own personal defining moments and creating art, consider the following tools:

· Symbols that represent human rights in Canada and show the impacts that are not visible
· Metaphors that make lasting statements and give old phrases new meaning
· Key events and individuals in Canadian human rights history that are related to your personal defining moments

Create art that inspires Canadian to do something and document it!

SELECTION CRITERIA

A selection jury appointed by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will choose winning entries from among those eligible entries received. The winning designs will be produced and displayed on a multimedia screen in Winnipeg during the cornerstone laying ceremony for the Museum in July 2010.

To be eligible, an entry must comply with the rules and eligibility guidelines (size, use of proper media, completed submission forms, age, etc.)

Designs will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
• Clarity of human rights theme/message
• Use of colour and visual appeal
• Clarity of image (for transfer onto multimedia screen and visibility from a distance and height)
• Originality and creativity of design
