I am Oyoroko Ochuko — a visual artist, designer, builder, and activist from the oil-rich Niger-Delta region of Nigeria. My life and work flow between the worlds of art, construction, and creative design, merging imagination with craftsmanship to create spaces and experiences that inspire.

Raised in a creative household, I was introduced to the art of form and texture by my maternal aunt, a traditional potter. By the age of seven, I was already sculpting native terracotta pots and figurines that reflected the beauty and rhythm of my Urhobo heritage. That early encounter with clay ignited a lifelong passion for creating — from paintings and sculptures to the structural artistry of pools and buildings.

I studied Visual Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, where I graduated with Upper Honours and received the Dean’s Prize Award for Best Graduating Student (Creative Arts Class of 1993–1997).*
My journey since then has evolved beyond the studio — blending artistry with architecture to redefine how spaces can move, heal, and inspire people.

As a visual artist and professional builder, I approach every project — whether a mural, a sculpture, or a swimming pool — as a living artwork. My pool designs and construction works embody the same principles that guide my paintings: balance, texture, light, emotion, and storytelling.
Each project becomes a dialogue between creativity and structure — between water, space, and human experience.

Influenced by master Urhobo artists like Bruce Onobrakpeya and Prof. J. T. Agberia, I remain dedicated to preserving African artistic identity while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. I am a proud member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and operate a studio and construction workshop in Delta State, Nigeria, where I create, build, and consult. My works are also showcased through my online gallery, @oyorokoart.

Over the years, I have exhibited in Nigeria and internationally, including:
• Solo Exhibition: My Riverine Odyssey — a collection of seascapes, paintings, and sculptures inspired by the Niger-Delta’s environment and spirit.
• Group Exhibition: My Niger Delta: The Struggle, Sacrifices & Peace Today — a visual chronicle of the region’s journey from struggle to peace (Monaco, 2013).

Art, to me, is boundless. It is the connection between what we see and what we feel — a bridge between the physical and the spiritual.
Whether expressed through canvas, clay, or concrete, my work explores the balance between culture, environment, and humanity.

Through both art and construction, I seek to build more than objects or spaces — I build stories, emotions, and environments that reflect the beauty and resilience of life.
