Jamie Boyd

I have always been passionate about art and have spent the last ten years studying painting. I specialise in painting landscapes from my studio in Falmouth, Cornwall, and I am particularly interested in exploring the changing landscapes through drawing and colour theory and painting them from a personal perspective.

I was born in Eastbourne, East Sussex. I gained a distinction in Art and Design at Eastbourne College of Arts. And moved to Falmouth, Cornwall where I studied Illustration at Falmouth College of Arts and graduated with a first class Degree. I then went on to achieve an MA Illustration at the same college. At the moment I am tutoring students for the Open College of the Arts on Art and Design and Watercolour courses.

I have exhibited my work in various venues throughout the country. I have also personally supervised, organised and been a curator of a community art exhibition which involved many local artists. My last exhibition was held at Truro Cathedral, where I used a public space to encourage the audience to look at their surrounding landscape by creating a site-specific exhibition, combining painting and digital media.

At the moment, I am working on paintings from a tour of Europe, which was influenced by landscapes that J. M. W. Turner visited and painted. I am also creating paintings from a recent trip to the Isles of Scilly. And I am continually painting the Cornish landscapes that surround my studio in Falmouth. I am also collaborating with a group of contemporary visual artist known as ‘Level 2, artist led-initiative’ on a community project, which involves researching and creating a document about our studio on the Falmouth Wharves.
