Art. Perspective. Possibility.

Carl Conway

For as long as I can remember I have loved to draw and paint, capturing the world and it’s images on paper.

Since leaving art school I have worked for 21 years as a freelance graphic designer/art director, and have been in full-time employment as an art director with an advertsing agency for the last 2 years. I have incorporated my drawing/ painting skills within my job when it has been called for and has been a great asset to my career.

My passion and inspiration for painting is derived from places I visit regularly; landscapes of Southern England, South West England; coastal scenery and dramatic skies, capturing landscapes and light in layers of watercolour, acrylics and pastel.

I try to capture the essence of a scene in an impressionist and personal way, working from sketches and photographs to create a finished painting. I am constantly striving to extend my skills in water-based mediums, sometimes combining watercolour with pastels.

I admire work by all the great landscape masters as well as many modern artists, too many to mention here.

I have had work commissioned by the Medici Society and private commissions in London, Canada, Wales and Scotland. My ambition is to be able to paint full-time and live by the sea
