@mfurdyk dont extend the voting time line. In future contents it will help us to think that "....the deadline can be change, and I have enough time!!"..... About the Voting system:- any new user can take part in the contest but voting ID's must be 1/2 yrs old is preferable! Coz to win my self I can use 1000 e-ID's to open 1000 TIG profile to vote me! :))

Another organization that some of you may be interested to learn more about (especially those with backgrounds in agriculture/agro-forestry). The Green Frontier is a collaborative effort to freely disseminate findings of best practice about creating thriving green productive land without chemical use or the reliance on fossil fuels. The mission of the Green Frontier is to transform degraded environments into biodiverse ecosystems with thriving human settlements, while reducing atmospheric CO2 to pre-industrial levels. There is a great article by Akira Moretto (of Strategic Asia) in the March 2nd issue of Jakarta Globe, entitled, "The Threat of Indonesia's Palm Oil Rush." I encourage everyone to read it! It does a great job of summarizing in layman's terms the complexity of the situation, particularly with regards to the pressing challenge of creating diversification in Indonesia's economy. It's quite the formidable task with such lucrative interests at stake, but absolutely essential for the long-term health and growth of Indonesia (and indeed many other developing countries whose economies rely heavily on the production of primary commodities). OK, last plug for the day, and it's for one of the BEST organizations making a difference on the ground for people and forests in Indonesia: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).
Consider them a "center of Willies," if you will. They use multi-disciplinary science and policy expertise - not just in the field of forestry - to address the needs and perspectives of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods. Thank you all for continuing the great discussion, and for the awesome submissions we keep receiving in. Here's the official announcement about the extension, which the team has just finalized along with the selection date & filming schedule. Many people have been hearing about the project recently and have asked for extra time, and so we've decided to give all of you extra time to participate in the virtual campaign before we close the process.

"Due to demand, we have extended the call for submissions and voting until Sunday, April 10th, 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5). The final ten recruits will be announced May 1, 2011, and filming commencing July 1st."

By the way, we've decided to remove the countdown timer since it's confusing people who have their computer clocks set incorrectly. We will try to replace it soon with one that's based on a central clock.

Thanks for the deadline extension, Mike! Some phenomenal, very qualified candidates are just trickling in now - it'd be a shame to turn them away. Also, if nothing else, this extension will give some of the people that posted recently (myself included!) a little more time to catch up with the views and votes of videos that have been up here for many weeks/months.

You folks rock! The outpouring of requests for resources (flyers, stickers, etc) to jumpstart public awareness initiatives has been more than I could have ever hoped for! As I'm going to run out of hard-copy resources soon, I can't encourage people enough to join Rainforest Action Network (http://www.ran.org). They're an AWESOME organization with lots of resources to provide, and they're one of the only reasons that we were able to get General Mills and other US-based food companies to drop Sinar Mas from their supply chains this past year. I will be updating the Discussion section with more on that, but suffice it to say, RAN will help you make a difference in the corporate accountability end of things. Just one piece of the puzzle that needs addressing, and we could really use your voices and networking power!

The deadline extension does give the great new submissions more time to catch up, but at the same time it is also a shame how it is turning down many of the very qualified candidates that had already applied with March 18th in mind and that have already gone out of their way creating awareness about the project. Making important life decisions and making choices for the near future requires planning, and I'm sure many candidates had to turn down other opportunities or need to accept/reject other things soon.

Hi, i agree with pinkink, i think its a shame about the extension, i feel for ALL THE CONTESTANTS that have put all their efforts in to reach this deadline.

I AM SO HAPPY THAT THERE IS AN EXTENSION, I handed in the movie a week ago, but I realised that I didn't fully submit it, it's the second time the universe has given me reason to live, it wasn't coincidence, universe showed me the movie at my mother's and now given me an extension, so 2 days until my movie in I can't wait.

How to upload my pitch? Do I up load it to youtube and then submit it? Thanks:)

Yes you upload to youtube and then wait for it to be accepted and fully uploaded. Then you upload onto deforestaction using your video ID from youtube. Then you must wait for the video to be accepted onto the site before voting can occur.

EXTENSION OF DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR PROJECT BORNEO 3D:

With more and more entries pouring in from across the globe, we are experiencing a backlog of submissions. The extension was put in place to allow these applicants time to gain votes and support for their entries, and to allow countries like China, Indonesia and the US more time to promote the project.

For those of you who have already submitted an application, the extension provides a perfect opportunity to gain more support, awareness and votes for your clip!

It also gives you an opportunity, if you choose, to resubmit your clip. All you have to do is upload it as you previously did to YouTube, and email the TIG staff with your old submission YouTube URL and your new submission URL. All your votes/ratings will carry-over!

For those of you who have already submitted, keep building your support base. The person with the most votes will automatically be in the top 20.
Those who submitted early will be given bonus points in the selection process.

The new deadline for entries is 1700 EST on April 10th.
The top 50 recruits will be announced May 1.
The top ten will be announced soon after, with filming scheduled to commence in Indonesia on July 1.
