Aww, tough crowd, huh? Seriously not even an lol for the smiley skit? Hmmm... Well, I know we're all very serious about our passions but we can't be so serious we hold everything in, I mean that is very unhealthy just ask a Gastroenterologist. So feel free to let it out and laugh out loud. That way we can enjoy saving the world, cause it's a pretty sustainable job, what with there always being something to make better, fairer or more beautiful. Great comedy usually comes from somewhere dark, and I don't mean just those places where the sun never sets in winter like 'the polar region lands of the midnight sun'. And in our line of passions, there is a whole lot of dark matter to draw humour from. Seriously there is some funny stuff going on. I'll make a youtube vid of some and share, what do you say :)?

Just got word via a Facebook post from the Chairman/CEO of OO Netherlands that this morning, a group of more than 60 people organised by the BKSDA (Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam - the Nature Conservation Agency) of Sintang searched the whole Hutan Baning area to find Luna. Unfortunately without result. Stay tuned guys and gals, and please keep circulating the note put out to MNS. We must not lose hope! @Tara - Still waiting to hear back regarding the cell #. Will post the moment I receive any further information.

ATTENTION ACTION AGENTS! The Anonymous Tipline (cell phone based in Indonesia) for the Luna campaign is set up. The petition is also approved and ready to go! Please find it at http://tinyurl.com/3j2n3tr. To unify our voices, I think we should post on 1 (maybe 2) major petition sites - as opposed to a smattering of them. What do you guys think? Let's try to act quickly here, especially given the delay we've already had. Please note - tips could come in from *any* country. You will see that I put in directions for Indonesia-based calls, as well as calls from abroad (i.e., any other countries).

There are literally hundreds of international call prefixes (IDDs), so I had to include a hyperlink to a listing of them as opposed to listing them all. If we copy and paste into a petition site, we need to be *especially* mindful of this hyperlink. If it won't allow for the hyperlink to remain active, we'll have to grab the URL behind it from the Google Doc (an easy process) and physically type it out so people can access it. I have to run and tutor a few students now - but I'll check this site right after (in 2-3 hours). What do you guys think for petition sites? Let each other know so we can run with this ASAP! If there is an agreement among the community here in the next couple hours, please feel free to go ahead and post it from my Google Doc. Thanks everyone! {:(|)

Tara, when you click on the link you have to delete the period from the end of the sentence. It's the same URL issue that we've all been having, but once you delete the period it works fine (just checked)

Good tip Steve! Unfortunately a period is a valid part of a URL, so if you paste a link and then put . right after it - it will make that part of the link!

Links work best if you put them on their own line - that way no other characters can interfere :)

I've fixed the links so they work now.

After looking at reviews for petition sites I think Petition Spot is the best one to use. You can sign in with a Twitter account, helping us catch social media savvy folks. Also, it earns you one cent per sign up via PayPal. Funds that could be used for the campaign or for Orangutan Outreach directly.

A second one could run from TIG, which allows Facebook sign-up. I have found that TIG does allow images to go in their petitions, I just don't know how yet. But see: Will you listen? - Young Voices from Conflict Zones at http://petitions.tigweb.org/machel for an example

The other sites ticked people off for various reasons like asking for donations, contacting the signers via their registration contacts, or being complicated.

Act.ly sounded good, it's a Twitter based petition tool but it seems to be offline/fail whale down right now.

Ok so thanks gareth for doing the reviews on that! Petition spot sounds great if it earns 1 cent per sign up - but it seems if you dont have fb or twitter you need a zip code to sign. What if people don't have any of these? What about TIG petition instead? Like you said you can upload pics and also you dont need to be a member to sign!

Happy Earth Day everyone! For those of you in Australia, it's great that this year we are making some real progress on ensuring products containing palm oil will hopefully finally be labelled.

Gareth, thanks for posting this. I see what you mean about the image. Quite large - no way to shrink it? One very important thing mate - the hyperlink on the international calling code prefix did not carry over. Could you please grab the original URL link from the Google Doc I created and carry it over? To put it in context, we might want to add a quick sentence: "For international callers, your country's calling code can be found here ". This is especially important for reasons outlined a couple posts back. Tips could come from anywhere.

On another note, is everyone comfortable having TIG be the only petition host? Mike maybe you can weigh in - will this mean that only people who sign up for TIG will be able to sign it? If so, as awesome of a community as TIG is, we may want to quickly consider mirroring on PetitionSite/Care2/etc lest we seriously limit the number of signatures we get (keeping in mind the 15 second and/or 2-click rule of people's cyberspace altruism).

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know about an article I'm writing on orangutans and their struggle to survive, which will be published in an upcoming issue of The Week magazine. It will be a full-page news briefing on the threats to the species, with an emphasis on the palm oil industry and its impact on orangutans. I hope it will help to raise awareness in Australia about this vital issue that we potential action agents care so much about. The article will be published in the Australian edition of The Week magazine - which is a news magazine in the U.K, U.S and Aus. It will be published sometime in the next couple of weeks, and I'll let you know when it's out.
