Hi eco-superstars! I got a pretty huge news! I just got invited by Pecha Kucha Jakarta to be a speaker in their event! Apparently they heard about my concern about deforestation and they saw my video application for this Project!
Pecha Kucha is generally attended by around 200 guests and 20 media. The event has also been covered in several general and lifestyle publications. The video presentations have also been viewed by an average 500 views/presentations. On the D-day, they will also conduct a live tweeting from their twitter account (@pechakuchajkt) which currently has 1.444 followers. They also promote the event through Facebook page which gathers more than 1.929 members to date. They invite speakers to to share ideas, visions, works,

They want the speakers to share their ideas, visions, works and achievements that will inspire other young people to do the same. Most of the guests are young people in their 20s.

Apparently the theme this time is regarding deforestaction. The event will be held this April 26, so I have less than 2 weeks to presentation! My presentation will be later posted on their global website http://www.pecha-kucha.org//

G'day Guys! MISSION FIND LUNA SAFE! Let's create an online petition for the finding and safe return of Luna. Online petitions can get thousands, tens or hundreds of thousands of people signed up and that power moves people, organisations and events. Project Borneo applicants like you and me and its associated supporters would eagerly support such a petition.
The petition should include details about Luna such as appearance specifics, height, weight, eyes, and behavioural or identifiable characteristics, which I've asked Orangutan Outreach for. Everyone possible should be informed of these identifying characteristics of Luna. Then every single zoo in the world could be asked to sign the petition. They could be asked if they know of anything at all that may help us find her and they could be asked to sign that they have not taken Luna or anyone like her. The collective knowledge of these zoos and their being made aware that all the petition signers are watching and looking for Luna could really help find her safely.
I have to jump off the net right now and graduate tomorrow morning, so if TIG could pull together and help get this party started we can do more to action finding Luna safe.

Great idea Gareth! If you let us know when you get a reply, I'm very happy to create a group to start getting this thing off the ground (along with anyone else who wants to). One thing, are you sure that Orangutan Outreach aren't running their own mass-search?

On another note, here's a great TED talk I watched today by Barry Schwartz on our loss of wisdom. He argues powerfully that rules often fail us, incentives often backfire, and practical, everyday wisdom will help rebuild our world. (http://bit.ly/YVAjB)

It's amazing and I'd recommend it fully! More to the point, he talks about Willie Smits' knowledge, will and skill to do the right thing in regards to his reforestation programme, and emphasises how important knowing the people in the forest communities is. Project Borneo 3D and its counterparts are so important not only because they engage people with the issue of deforestation, but also because they encourage local input, set up networks with and within forest communities and create a feeling of world connectedness.

Schwartz essentially argues that knowledge, wisdom and information is so crucial. We live in a world of bureaucracy and claustrophobic rules, and the only way to defeat them is persistence and knowledge sharing. Give it 20 minutes of your time; it's worth every second.

Hey folks. Thank you all so much for your continued concern and efforts for Luna. Rest assured that Rich and Co are doing absolutely everything they can. I'm working with my contacts at the Jakarta Globe to put out an article and series of public announcements about her disappearance in regional newspapers and Indonesian media. Public petitions are a great idea too. I'd respectfully suggest we coordinate and do a single, unified petition/group as opposed to a smattering of them. Gareth - would you be willing to take the lead on that? Let me know if you need any help. The faster we get this off the ground the better. Thanks again everybody! Stay optimistic. Luna is definitely still alive. Let's just hope and pray she hasn't already made it out of Indonesia to Malaysia, Singapore, China or elsewhere.
