She is a starving vendor outside the ancestral house of former President Ferdinand Marcos whose infamy was rooted in human rights violations, ostentatious displays of ill-gotten wealth and Martial Law in the Philippines. The woman's shirt shows the radiant, smiling face of his wife, Imelda, icon of luxury and consumerism, whitewashing poverty with infrastructures.
Years after they were ousted, women are still underprivileged, we are still poor, and people like this aging vendor are still suffering from skewed justice.
This, I believe, is the greatest irony of all.
