View artist portfolioThis is my video application to become one of ten project leaders for "Project Borneo 3d," a massive undertaking between Dutch conservationist Dr. Willie Smits, Orangutan Outreach, Virgo Productions, TakingITGlobal and other partners to bring awareness, and ultimately provide solutions to rampant deforestation in Borneo that is threatening unique wildlife, local communities and the global climate alike. The project takes place in the Sintang District of West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and includes large-scale sustainable economic development initiatives for the rural Dayak communities, tropical reforestation efforts on degraded land, and permanent sanctuary building for displaced orangutans.
Please find out more about this pressing issue at www.deforestACTION.com and www.redapes.org, or by watching Dr. Willie Smits' inspiring TED talk at: http://www.ted.com/talks/willie_smits_restores_a_rainforest.html
I'd be greatly honored to receive your vote on this video so that I may have the opportunity to work with the man that has long served as my single greatest role model. He is one of the few individuals truly doing what it takes to save whole species, ecosystems, and communities in Indonesia. The more votes my video receives, the greater my chances - so vote and spread far and wide to friends and family. Thanks everybody! {:(|)
Sincerely,
Steve

Managed to get logged in Steve, but still don't see how to vote... in case I don't get, much luck and success Aunt Polly
Seems to me that Steve, is a very passionate kind of guy. He gets his motivation from his mentor, Dr. Willie Smits. Hopefully, he will get his grant to conduct GIS mapping for deforestation..
Steve! you clearly live for this, keep up the awesome work and I really hope you can make it to Borneo
Thanks James and Paul. James, I wish Dr. Smits was my mentor! That's EXACTLY why I've been saving $ to get to Borneo this past year and a half - to try to work underneath him (or as closely with him and his partners as possible). I've been lucky enough to meet with him directly, but I have a lot to learn and he is the man I most need to learn from!
Thankyou Steve! -and Like wise! From the looks of things you're clearly a young professional, with plenty under your belt, and a 'round' understanding of the issue. Im sure you could have a huge role to play on the team in Borneo.
Good luck Steve! Keep practising your bahasa!
to vote click on 'Deforest action' on the lower right hand side, then scroll down the page to see the videos ... at the very bottom you will see 'cast your vote'. Not easy to find!

Steve, thanks for your reply to my question on the main page - I'm glad you did because it lead me to your video. W-O-W! You are amazing and definitely deserve the opportunity to work on Project Borneo 3D! Hope you get selected! :)
I've worked with Steve for 2 years in the fitness dept of the YMCA. This is the most focused, hardworking, intelligent, driven 25 yr old you'll ever meet. As long as I've known him he has been working 7 days and 6 nights a week to raise money to move to Borneo to help out projects exactly like this. You NEED to pick this guy!!!
I rarely meet people with as much determination and belief in an idea and its possibilities. After working with Steve, I immediately identified those powerful traits. He has a natural passion for wildlife and an exceptional view of the world. As an accomplished scientist he has advanced quantitative skill and yet he has the ability to communicate in a simple, direct and inspirational manner. I hope you give him this opportunity.
Steve is one of the most dedicated people I've seen in regard to caring about the environment. He and his sisters spent an entire vacation working hard to care for some sea turtles down in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. He should really be chosen because he exemplifies what it means to care for our world. He is the quintessential model for what every environmentalist should be.
nailed it! :)
Great video and I think he is the best pick for this cause.
So proud of you!
