I understand the message you are trying to portray through you artwork, Lyndsey, however I believe you would have made a more significant point if you'd have taken a photo yourself, of something which affects YOU personally.
Not meaning to sound like a know-it-all, but us Westerners living in the UK do not have much experience of living in a poverty-striken environment, even if you do live in a tiny, run-down house, or even on the streets for that matter. Sure, you may have witnessed some very unfortunate scenes while travelling or on holiday, but if you want your art to really MEAN something, you either have to make it an outstanding masterpiece, or inject a certain level of your own lifestyle.
The description you have given us is truthful enough. But simply copying and pasting a picture from the internet(im just guessing that's what you did, sorry if i am mistaken) of a starving women is just not enough to showcase your artistic ability. Whether it be to take a perfect photo, or make a valid point through your work.
A good photo. Infact poverty is a global issue and its the duty of every individual to contribute whatever he/she can. I appriciate your feelings
