I created this painting in grade 12 after reading the book 1984. This is a picture of Winston...who is torn between the world where 'big brother is watching' and the past that burns up in flames as people are conditioned to re-learn concepts of truth. After reading this book I felt deep pains of sadness and fear for the future. If the world came to be such a tormenting, dark and fear-based place to live, I too would feel the way that Winston felt...lost, torn and afraid.

1984 surely is a tormenting book. and hugely important. It's like Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. And "Topside", a small book by an author I cannot remember, and I lost the book :(
