Tropical Rainstorms and Madagascan Roads

This is La Route National 7 near Toliara. This part of the highway is unpaved, partly because of the frequency of rain and thunderstorms in the area and poor drainage. During the rainy season Toliara is amost cut off from the north because the land turns into a temporary lake. For the rest of the year cars, buses and trucks drive back and forth with some difficulty. Where the pavement stops people have driven different paths into the land to get to the other side. Well used paths get worn down and fill with water from the rains, forcing the creation of new paths. I can only imagine that from the sky this area must look like a spiders web.
