Basata V

From the top of a coastal cliff, I took this panoramic view of Basata village on the Gulf of Aqaba.

The village was founded 22 years ago as a sutainable and environmentally-friendly tourist resort by its Egyptian owner and his German wife.

Wine, TV, cell-phones, sheesha, and smoking are neither allowed to the guests nor the staff. In addition, electricity is supplied only to the masonry huts, and not to the bamboo/palm leaves ones. Meanwhile, a continuous system of waste separation and recycling characterizes the village, in addition to a local school serving the children of the staff and local bedouins.

Basata also overlooks one of the most virgin coral reefs of the Red Sea.
