The figure in the front has been traveling and is just reaching a village. She arrives at night, because that is when it is best to travel. The blue figures in the back ground are protector spirits that travel with her. She can not see the spirits, but senses that they are there with her. In my work, Sivad represents not only a fictitious urban village where all the people potrayed are traveling to physically, but an internal, spiritual journey. Each painting reflects an essential moment in an individuals journey. Ancestor Spirits, represented by blue figures, or light, help guide these people as they travel day to day in search of Sivad.
