Gateway of India

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India was built in Bombay Harbour from 1914-20. It was opened on December 4, 1924 by the Viceroy, Earl of Reading.

The last British troops to leave India, the First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, passed through the gate in a ceremony on February 28, 1948.

In the background is Bombay's famous Taj Mahal Hotel.

I will never forget my lunch at a great restaurant at the Taj Mahal hotel. It cost one arm and two legs but it was something.
